Donetsk is a major financial centre on the east of Ukraine. It is often called the «mining» capital. Donetsk today is a city, which is concentrated in a very high industrial and scientific potential, highly skilled workers, which is very developed infrastructure and industrial base. Unlike other million-inhabitant cities of Ukraine, Donetsk actually feels like a big city, with shiny modern buildings, bright lights and more flashy cars than you can count. Three-lined streets, big square parks and a recend dedication to cleanliness also contribute to the urban buzz.

Donetsk is famous for football team "Shakhtyor" and the various city monuments, theatres, museums, art-galleries. Visitors can make tours to the famous Donbass Coal Mines. But it must be done with a permission of licensed tour agency.The Natural History Museum of Donetsk tells the history of mining in the town and features a bit about regional culture.

The Opera House still brings culture to the mining masses, as does the Philharmonic Concert Hall, which tends to offer more contemporary entertainment of extraordinary quality. In the North of the city there is Park Komsomola. It is very popular pretty forest, and in summer its a lively hangout for youngsters and families. Otherwise, Donetsk is crazy city for a night out on the town, with more night clubs and discos then perhaps even Kiev.
